Mime!

Miming? What the heck is that?

Well, (one of) the official definition(s) of Mime is "the theatrical technique of suggesting action, character, or emotion without words, using only gesture, expression, and movement."

An example of mime is:

In Music, we got the chance to create a mime scene.

Jaime, Nadia, and I got "At the circus" as our situation. In the short 5 minutes we got, we decided that Nadia was a ringleader, I was a juggler, and that Jaime was a tight rope walker. I found miming pretty difficult so I don't think I'll be doing that for my assessment...

Lollipops In Drama

No, not actual lollipops. Our drama class are nicknamed 'lollipops'. Don't ask it wasn't our idea.

Our first real project of this year is creating a play about animals for a younger audience. Below is a bunch of stuff that we've done for it so far.

Notes:
Focus - be nice to animals,

Actions - Comedy/Interaction - kids up/dancing; questions

Roles - Animal (real); costumes, masks; tricks - hoop jumping

Time - 20 minutes

Tension - Hurt, SPCA stories of abuse -> Rescue

Space - Auditorium, need to look at the bookings.

We will be entertaining 5-7-year-olds.
SPCA ---> Getting someone in / Class trip

There's probably more but this is everything so far!

Dancing's Not A Crime Unless You Do It Without Me - Performing Arts - Dance

Parris Goebel

Parris Goebel is a 27-year-old dancer, choreographer, actress, singer, and director. She grew up right here in New Zealand, raised in Manurewa, Auckland. Though she went to, and dropped out of, Auckland Girls' Grammar School, she never went to a hip hop dance class, although she tried. Goebel says that she tried a ballet class but didn't like being told what to do, that dance is a freedom. She is mostly self-taught, though she says she learnt from the best.

The Royal Family

The Royal Family is a New Zealand based dance crew. I can not currently find which competitions they have attended but they won/got gold World Hip-Hop Dance Championships three years in a row. Though the list may grow, so far they have danced for singers/groups such as Ciara, Little Mix, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Big Bang, 2NE1, CL, iKon, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Black Pink.

Just Look Over Your Shoulder

“Two World One Family”

To me, this quote means that no matter where you come from, if you have love, you can be apart of a family.

In Chris Buck and Kevin Lima’s movie ‘Tarzan’, we are presented with the idea that as human’s we have a choice in how we live our lives. We see this in the scenes where Jane and co are telling Tarzan what he needs to do, where he belongs based on what he looks like/what other people think of him. I think this is important because people need to understand that they have a say in their own lives and they can’t let people push them around.

Tarzan shows us the idea that your cultural background doesn’t, or rather shouldn’t, matter in the long run. We are shown this throughout the movie through things such as the scenes where Kala is showing Tarzan how they are one in the same even though they don’t look alike. This makes me think about children who have been adopted into a family of a different race.

A message that can be taken from ‘Tarzan’ is people in the modern world should put more effort into seeing in other people’s perspectives. This is shown through small things like how Kerchak and Clayton refused to understand how the other species wasn’t going to harm them. This relates to the real world where race and racism are a huge problem.

New Beginnings

Welcome to Year 10 Drama for 2019!

Below is a video from our second lesson!

Not To Throw Any Shade But-

In art for 2019, the first thing we have worked on is toning! Toning covers everything from shading black and white images to the different shades of mauve.

To the left is the draw I did in the second lesson of toning. We to tasked to follow this video and choose one of the three shapes to draw.

As you can see, I chose to draw the cube.

Have you improved your understanding of tone/shading?

I would say yes, definitely.
Do you understand that drawing using structure can help you draw better?
Yes! Using the ruler to help with the negative space was so much easier than having to worry about drawing straight lines.
What are you going to work on going forward in pencil drawing in and out of class?
Mostly proportion. I struggle with that sometimes.

Social Studies - Human Rights

The first tasks of Social Studies 2019, Human Rights!

We were assigned two different tasks. One of which we had to create a poster. Below is mine! Sorry if it's a bit hard to read.

Our second task was to rate our top 5 most important rights. We were to get into groups and debate these until we all agreed on a collective top 5. These were my group's

No One Can Take Away Your Human Rights.
We chose this one as our #1 because we believe what's the point in having human rights if they're just going to be taken away?

We Are All Born Free & Equal. We are all born free. We all have our own thoughts and ideas. We should all be treated in the same way.

 The Right to Life.
Live would be pretty bad if you couldn't live in freedom or in safety

The Right to Education.
Education is a right. Primary school should be free. We should learn about the United Nations and how to get on with others.

Food and Shelter for All.
We all have the right to a good life. Mothers and children, people who are old, unemployed or disabled, and all people have the right to be cared for.

Values, Identity, Strengths - And More!

At the moment we're studying hauora and focusing on spiritual wellbeing. Below is what I've been working on!

1: Perseverance
Finishing what one starts; persevering in a course of action in spite of obstacles; “getting it out the door”; taking pleasure in completing tasks.
2: Appreciation of Beauty & Excellence
Noticing and appreciating beauty, excellence, and/or skilled performance in various domains of life, from nature to art to mathematics to science to everyday experience.
3: Teamwork
Working well as a member of a group or team; being loyal to the group; doing one's share.
4: Prudence
Being careful about one's choices; not taking undue risks; not saying or doing things that might later be regretted.
5: Creativity
Thinking of novel and productive ways to conceptualize and do things; includes artistic achievement but is not limited to it.

I would say that the majority of the above contribute to my identity. Things such as creativity, perseverance, teamwork and appreciation of beauty & excellence.

Here's some stuff about me! Ignore the leaf in the middle :P

Kindness

I think not many people perform random acts of kindness because they’re afraid to step up and do that stuff or afraid of the outcome.

I think the world would be a lot happier if people did perform random acts of kindness.

FROM THE VALUES YOU CHOSE, WRITE ABOUT THE TWO THAT ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU
The two most important to me would be perseverance and creativity
WHY IS THIS VALUE IMPORTANT TO YOU?
C - Because I feel like everyone in this world is creative, everyone has the ability to do something cool and creative
P - If you start something, you should probably finish it, what is the point of starting something you can’t finish?
RECALL A MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU REALLY ‘LIVED’ THIS VALUE.
I use creativity all the time, I do a lot of acting and drawing and writing and singing
One time, I got so annoyed by the fact I had a story draft from 2 years ago that I spent about a week trying to finish the story with nothing but the last few pages to go off of
IF THIS VALUE IS NOT BEING RESPECTED BY OTHERS, HOW MIGHT YOU FEEL OR REACT?
I tend to get pretty defensive over the things I believe in so I might get angry or upset.
